NURTURE Your Goosebumps

They herald our AWE and WONDER… they flag when we connect to cosmic electricity and the wordless mystery of being ALIVE.

I relish goosebumps. But lately they are strangers.

When goosebumps go dormant, I look sternly at myself and the patterns of behavior I may have fallen into that are so complacent I phone them in. Every area of my day (my usual suspects are: relationships, exercise, eating, creativity, marketing, sleep, nature time, meditation) is subject to a check-in. My inquiry for each is: Am I approaching ______ with intention or am I sleepwalking through it?

Why goosebumps?

Goosebumps are breadcrumbs for magical moments. And magical moments are how I now choose to measure ALIVENESS.

The tasks we tick off our never-ending lists seem imperative. And they may be. But the meaningfulness in experiences of awe + wonder that deepens our connection with love, nature, an appreciation of immenseness in life is measurably beneficial for our minds, bodies, souls. We become more cooperative, kinder, we heal within.

As we take stock with a new season, a new year, a new intention… where are we nurturing our goosebumps?

  • Are we choosing to dine our soul out on what nourishes us?

  • Where is our wonder in our everyday?

Our brain’s reticular activating system curates our focus. What we ask it to see, it shows us evidence of our chosen focus, often to the exclusion of other possibilities. What we focus on and energize, we grow in all areas of our lives.

My wish for us all in this holiday, and as we celebrate infinite beginnings: Map wonder into our daily experience.

An easy dance with wonder is to invite it where we typically sleepwalk through a familiar activity. An example: Walking our pup on one of the routes we take daily. Today: START BLIND—pay attention not to what we “see” but really overlook. Instead, SMELL the season, FEEL the sun on your skin, LISTEN to your breath. How might you see anew? As if the world is ours to discover.

To energize WONDER in your life, and transform novelty into innovation and resilience, I warmly invite you to read SEEING FRESHLY the fieldbook for up-leveling creativity and confidence. Also available in 2022: Seeing Freshly individual coaching and group experiences online and in-person.
