How Well Do You Know Your Bellybutton?

We ALL have one.

It comes with us wherever we adventure.

It stretches to climb over hills, it accordions to sit in the car driving hours to run errands, it snuggles in to our comforters and blankets as we sleep, it does stretchy yoga after the Thanksgiving feast, it sweats as we push to sprint the last 10 yards.

When was the last time you really examined your bellybutton? Tickled it? Scrub-a-dubbed it?

Our bellybuttons are prime examples of how we can transform our experience with what is most familiar to us.

When we feel we are in a routine (or rut) with any aspect of our life, we can energize our curiosity, explore it with new eyes, shift our enjoyment and discover an entirely new way it might expand our possibilities. Even with our unassuming bellybuttons, bringing our attention to something we overlook every day flexes our creative muscles.

And when we play with creativity regularly, we build a pattern. A pattern that amplifies us as innovators, seers of possibility, those who are open to make new connections, to live unlimited lives.

Curious? Let’s play for a mere minute!

Your faithful bellybutton—what is its secret life?

Imagine, conjure, consider….

  • If it spoke, what does its voice sound like?

  • What is its happiest activity?

  • What does it wish it didn’t have to do?

  • What don’t we know about it?

  • What is its secret function?

  • What else in nature has something like it?

  • How might it want its portrait made?

  • What might it want us to know about it, about us?

  • How does it want to be loved?

Bringing new appreciation to an everyday element, whether learning about it or imagining about it, gives it a new life, offers us a new connection to understand it more profoundly, to feel a transformation in our relationship with it. And when we FEEL differently about anything, we SEE it differently.

Cheers to living a life rich in transforming the familiar into fresh possibilities.
